The workshops for SEMANTiCS 2017 will be held prior to the conference core programme at September 11th. We recommend attending SEMANTiCS main conference as well.
Day passes for the workshops are at 40,- (excl. registartion fee and VAT). Coffee, some cakes and sandwiches are included. Registration is mandatory as space is very limited. Given beginning and end times are preliminary.
Two worlds, one goal: A Reliable Linked Data ecosystem for media - Wolters Kluwer & DBpedia
Data Enrichment & Data Quality - Data Quality as an enabler and pre-requesite for data businessThis half-day workshop aims at exploring major topics for publishers and libraries from DBpedia’s and Wolters Kluwer’s perspective. Therefore, both communities will dive into core areas like Interlinking, Metadata and Data Quality and address challenges such as fundamental requirements when publishing data on the web.
Organizers: DBpedia, Wolters Kluwer

There is an unprecedented amount of data on the Web today. However, this data is only as useful as its quality allows it to be. Data Quality is an important topic in companies and organizations from various (vertical) domains, which are working with large and heterogeneous linked data, be it LOD or Linked Business Data. Academia is also now starting to address the issue and define data quality assessment frameworks. This workshop is aiming at bridging the gap by inviting professional data experts as well as researchers to share their ideas, algorithms and lessons learnt with each other.

More and more governmental organizations publish their data as open data (most typically as CSV files ). Nevertheless, in order to publish such data as Linked Data, further non-trivial effort is needed, which is often not done by these organizations. We would like to discuss the issues/lessons learned we have so far, present the evaluations of such tools, and future directions in that area, etc.

For several years, organizations have used W3C standards: SKOS for taxonomies, RDF/OWL for ontologies. Using standards enables interoperability and re-use of assets and skills. Until now, there wasn’t a standard for defining rules or for checking data conformance. Organizations used proprietary approaches or simply stated their rules on paper.
Enter SHACL (Shapes Constraint Language) – the new W3C standard that addresses this problem. SHACL offers rich, flexible notations for expressing practically any rule.

This tutorial aims to stimulate discussion on the potential for granular semantic tagging of content but also on the potential tensions between content as narrative and content as linked data. To this end, conceptual sections are broken up by practical exercises so that participants can experience at first-hand the opportunities and challenges faced by information modelers and authors of semantic structured content alike.
